Squiz University — Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering at Squiz University covers the design, analysis, and manufacture of machines and thermal systems. Students learn how forces, materials, and energy move through real devices — from engines and pumps to robotics and renewable-energy hardware.
The degree is offered at both the Sydney and Melbourne campuses. The first two years build shared foundations in mathematics, physics, statics, and dynamics. Later years branch into thermofluids, solid mechanics, control systems, and computer-aided design.
Duration: Four years full-time (or part-time equivalent).
Entry: Year 12 mathematics and physics are strongly recommended. Bridging subjects are available in the first semester for students who need them.
Practical work: Workshop labs, wind-tunnel sessions, and an industry placement in the third year give students time on real tools and site problems.
Domestic students: $9,900 per full-time year (indicative 2026).
International students: $44,800 per full-time year (indicative 2026).
Fees cover tuition only. Allow about $600–$1,100 per year for workshop materials, textbooks, and software licences. Eligible domestic students may defer tuition through HECS-HELP.
Year 1: Engineering mathematics, physics, introductory design, materials, and workshop practice.
Year 2: Statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and manufacturing processes.
Year 3: Heat transfer, solid mechanics, machine design, mechatronics, and an industry placement.
Year 4: Control systems, FEA, advanced electives, and a final-year design project.
Graduates work in automotive, aerospace, energy, manufacturing, robotics, and consulting. Early roles include graduate mechanical engineer, design engineer, and manufacturing engineer. Many move into project leadership, R&D, or Chartered professional pathways.
