Squiz University — Public Health
Public health at Squiz University covers how communities prevent disease, promote wellbeing, and strengthen health systems. Students learn to analyse population data, design programs, and evaluate policy — from local campaigns to national health strategies.
The degree is offered at both the Sydney and Melbourne campuses. The first two years build shared foundations in epidemiology, health promotion, biostatistics, and health systems. Later years branch into global health, environmental health, health policy, and program evaluation.
Duration: Three years full-time (or part-time equivalent).
Entry: Year 12 completion (or equivalent). English and mathematics are recommended; no prior health-sector experience is required.
Practical work: Data labs, community project work, and a placement with a health department, NGO, or local health district give students time on real population-health problems.
Domestic students: $8,500 per full-time year (indicative 2026).
International students: $33,200 per full-time year (indicative 2026).
Fees cover tuition only. Allow about $350–$700 per year for textbooks and software. Eligible domestic students may defer tuition through HECS-HELP.
Year 1: Introduction to public health, epidemiology basics, biostatistics, and health systems.
Year 2: Health promotion, environmental health, research methods, and chronic disease prevention.
Year 3: Health policy and economics, global health electives, program evaluation, and a field project placement.
Graduates work in government health agencies, NGOs, research institutes, health promotion units, and policy teams. Common titles include health promotion officer, program officer, research assistant, and policy analyst. Many continue into a Master of Public Health or related postgraduate study.
